PROJECT MANIFESTO

In this project I plan to create a jacket and trousers inspired by the resistance against the communist rule when my mum was a teenager and the identity that the people of Czechoslovakia were stripped of during this time.

Celebratory garments the Czech people where stripped of in the time of the communist rule

traditional folk garments

Embroidery

Resisting the loss of culture by giving soviet uniforms individuality and identity with embroidery. Also thinking about the emotional durability that the embroidery holds if it is done by hand and tailored to the Eastern European communities

Range Development

Combining the silhouettes and features of the folk and the military garments.

final Toile fittings

I kept the same key features from the previous toile but worked on the paneling because part of my ethos is to make garments last, one way of doing that is to have them prepared or restored and with panels and using 100% natural fibre materials they easily recycled and replaced

encased seam reasoning

Due to my skin problems I find wearing certain fabrics and fibres difficult especially seams. So for this project I wanted to experiment with making clothes as comfortable for everyone. I made all of the raw edges on the garment face out and left them raw but tapes the inside. I also Making sure to use natural 100% natural materials.
